Hermanitas is a national initiative focused on encouraging Latinas to stay in school and to pursue high academic goals. The goal is to develop the talent and skills of young Latinas in middle school, through educational programs at the National Hermanita Summer Institute; Local Hermanitas program; Girl Scouts partnership; online mentoring; community service; and school based initiatives.

The Hermanitas Program will provide:

  • Mentor
  • Conduct mentor, parent, mentee orientations
  • Provide training for program participants
  • Maintain continuous communications with the school
  • Expenses related to mentor program activities
  • Scholarship opportunities through MANA National, MANA de San Diego and Girl Scouts

Mentor Requirements and Expectations:

  • Mentor an Hermanita from September to July
  • Attend an Orientation meeting
  • Participate in mentor training
  • Be a MANA Member
  • Provide transportation for your Hermanita to monthly Saturday meetings
  • Fingerprints, drivers license and auto insurance

GIRL SCOUT COOKIES FROM OUR HERMANITAS!

Through our partnership with Girl Scouts, the Hermanitas will take part in the Girl Scouts annual cookie sale. Thanks to your support last year, our Hermanitas were one of the highest selling troops in all San Diego-Imperial council, having sold over $10,000 worth of cookies!
